Great weekend getaway
The August long weekend was our third time back to stay with Gabi and Frank and although though it was still top notch just like our previous stays, this one was even more memorable because of the owners. Our road trip this time was unfortunately very delayed because of the closure of two key highways. We didn't want to cancel as our reservations had been made quite some time ago and we were really looking forward to the getaway. I was worried that we wouldn't make it before the office closed at 10:30 pm so I called while we were getting turned around. There was lots of sympathy and an immediate offer to leave the door to our unit open and the key inside. Familiarity helps, I guess but that kind of generosity still leaves a huge impact. After being on the road for nearly 8 hours and arriving at 11 pm (the result of having to go the LONG way around), we were very grateful for their understanding and the clean beds to fall into. Our usual unit was once again spotlessly clean and well stocked with the little amenities any one could ask for. The air conditioner (window type that has to be turned on manually) had been left running in anticipation of our arrival, proving yet again that the thoughtfulness that Gabi and Frank have for their guests is paramount. As soon as I got a chance to flag Gabi down the next morning (she and Frank were busy cleaning and preparing for the next guests as usual) I was met with a warm hug and sincere appreciation for coming despite our travel travails. The Lido Motel is not an upscale modern motel but it is a charming, always well maintained spot. Perfect for small groups (there were three of us) and Gabi and Frank's caring and friendly nature will keep us coming back again and again. If you're looking for small, cosy, comfortable and fastidiously clean place to lay your head (and make your own simple meals) for a reasonable price, give the Lido a chance. You won't be disappointed.
Wow, what a nice homey place. Welcoming and helpful owners. Very clean. We had a room with a kitchenette, electric fireplace, and separate bedroom. I could easily stay here a week. It's off the highway so it's quiet. Easy walking distance to shops, restaurants, and groceries. Much less expensive and much quieter than staying in Banff or Lake Louise. Close to a lot of golf and the hot springs. This is the place to stay. We're coming back next year.
We didn't actually stay here, just walked past, looked really nice!
My check in experience was quite the ordeal. There was some miscommunication during check-in that ended up with the front staff asking me to go find accommodation somewhere else if I wasn't happy with their policy. I reiterated to her that I was just surprised and not 'unhappy' and she maintained she would rather have me leave than write a bad review. I felt she should have worked to make her client feel welcome rather than focus on getting a bad review. We did stay as I had 3 tired kids in the car from being on the road all day. Overall, we enjoyed our stay in Radium as we were mostly out all day anyways exploring.
